Learn More About Your Salado, Texas Eating Disorder + OCD Therapist
Hi friends, I’m Bobbie!
Hello friend! I’m Bobbie Shae Melton, LPC. You can just call me Bobbie. I’m a therapist, retired over-thinker, and your partner in getting unstuck.
I provide therapy for the highly anxious, obsessive thinkers, and emotional eaters who are tired of spending so much of their life trying to get things perfect.
Maybe you're constantly thinking about food, your body, your health, or what you “should” be eating.
Maybe your brain won't stop asking what if?
Maybe you spend a lot of time trying to control your thoughts, your anxiety, your eating, your body, or how other people see you.
Or maybe you're simply exhausted from feeling like everyone else got the handbook for how to do life and somehow you missed the memo.
I get it because I’ve been right where you are too.
And I believe you deserve a life that reflects your values instead of fears, where your body is your home, food is for fuel and enjoyment, and your mind is a kind place to be.
So, could we be a good fit?
If you’re looking for:
✧ Someone who will listen deeply and challenge you
✧ Someone who can talk about serious things without taking life too seriously
✧ Someone who understands what you’re going through, because I’ve been there too
I might be your girl. I’d love to meet you.
MY STYLE + APPROACH
-
I’m not the therapist who is going to sit silently while you talk for 50 minutes and then ask, “So…how did that make you feel?”
There is absolutely a place for talking, but I believe therapy should eventually help you do something differently.
I’m interactive, collaborative, and pretty hands-on.
We might talk through what’s happening, learn a new skill, challenge an old pattern, practice something uncomfortable, laugh about something ridiculous, and then figure out what you're going to try between now and our next session.
-
I use evidence-based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), along with other skills and strategies when they fit your needs.
I’m rooted in the science of therapy, but I’m not interested in making you squeeze yourself into a textbook treatment plan.
You’re the expert on your life. I’m the expert on therapy.
We bring those two things together and figure out where we're going.
-
I believe in helping you heal your relationship with your body rather than spending your life trying to fix your body.
You were not born believing your body needed to look a certain way before it deserved care.
You learned that somewhere along the way.
And if diet culture, weight stigma, or years of body criticism have made you feel like your body is something you need to control, punish, shrink, or earn the right to live in, we can work on changing that relationship.
I’m not your weight-loss hype girl.
I’m much more interested in helping you build a life where food can be food, movement can be movement, and your body is safe to come home to.
-
I also don't believe the goal of therapy is to make sure you never feel anxious again.
Because anxiety is going to show up.
Intrusive thoughts are going to happen.
Uncertainty is part of being human.
The goal is to help you stop organizing your entire life around avoiding those experiences.
That’s where ACT and ERP come in.
Instead of spending your life trying harder to control your internal experience, we practice responding to thoughts, feelings, sensations, and fears in a new way, so you can get back to the things that actually matter to you.
-
If you’re looking for a weekly place to vent about whatever happened that week, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But that's not really my style.
I like having somewhere we're going.
I want our sessions to connect from one chapter to the next. We’ll identify what is keeping you stuck, learn what you need to learn, practice what needs practicing, and eventually get you to a place where you don't need me anymore.
Because the goal isn't to become really good at therapy.
The goal is to become really good at living your life.
