Therapy for eating disorders, chronic dieting, emotional eating, and negative body image in Central Texas.

Living every day in a body that you hate, surrounded by food that scares you is such a hard way to live.

Eating disorders are a serious psychiatric condition that impacts the way you view yourself, your body, and your relationship with food. Over 29 million Americans experience an eating disorder throughout their lifetime. Perhaps what starts at an attempt to lose 5lbs, eat cleaner, or exercise a bit more often can quickly turn into an increasingly complicated relationship with food, body, and exercise.

eating disorders do not have a look.

Eating disorders do not discriminate based on age, race, sex, orientation, or body type. Perhaps your weight is in a normal range, you are getting praised for your hard work and progress, but your mind and body feel like a battlefield. You don’t have to look sick to be struggling, and you don’t have to wait until then to ask for help.

You might benefit from eating disorder therapy if this sounds like you…

✦ Constantly thinking about what, when, or how much you're eating
✦ Restricting food or following increasingly rigid food rules
✦ Binge eating or feeling out of control around food
✦ Feeling guilt, shame, or anxiety after eating
✦ Exercising to compensate for eating or “earn” food
✦ Avoiding certain foods because they feel unsafe or unacceptable
✦ Having an intense fear of being fat or gaining weight

✦ Frequently checking, criticizing, or comparing your body
✦ Going through cycles of dieting, overeating, and starting over
✦ Feeling like your weight or appearance determines your worth
✦ Spending so much mental energy on food and your body that it's getting in the way of your actual life

✦ Avoiding foods because of the smell, taste, texture, or fear of an adverse reaction to the food

And you want life to look like this…

✦ Getting dressed for the day without ridiculing your body

✦ Going out to eat with friends without scanning the menu beforehand

✦ Feeling free and at peace with carbs, fats, and sweets

✦ Exercising because you enjoy moving your body, not because you feel guilty for eating

✦ Eating dessert without promising yourself you’ll “be good” tomorrow

✦ Looking in the mirror without immediately searching for everything you want to change

✦ Taking pictures with the people you love without obsessing over how your body looks

✦ Trusting yourself around food instead of feeling like you have to constantly stay in control

✦ Spending less time thinking about food and more time actually living your life

✦ No longer feeling like you have to start one more diet on Monday

MY APPROACH

Tactful talking + targeted practicing

ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT)

With ACT, we will learn skills to be more flexible with our private, internal emotional experiences and thoughts. Gone are the days that your thoughts will rule your life’s choices. We will put your values back in the driver’s seat.

EXPOSURE AND RESPONSE PREVENTION (ERP)

ERP is the gold-standard treatment for OCD and Anxiety. You can think of therapy like lecture and lab in school! I teach you skills, and then we practice hands-on together. The best place to do exposures is where your compulsions or intrusive thoughts are happening, so that’s where we’ll do therapy.

DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT)

DBT skills are an integral part of my therapy that I provide. These are practical, hands-on skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, building healthy relationships with others, and mindfulness skills.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY (CBT)

Let’s identify the stories and beliefs that are keeping you stuck and challenge the very heart of them together. CBT allows you to take charge of your mind and what you do with your thoughts instead of feeling left to the mercy of what your mind tells you is true.
